Two Aion surveys during Holiday season

Aion team has announced two surveys with special gifts:

Two surveys will be going out starting Thursday December 23 and will be available for you to pick-up until January 3rd, 2011.

The first survey is a special holiday surprise, Daevas! We hope it will bring you good cheer and keep you warm in those cold, winter nights in Atreia. Remember if you want it on your main character, make sure you log on to your main then open the survey and accept it!

The second survey will deliver a second Watchful Ailu pet egg. The Watchful Ailu was a big hit and we want to provide an opportunity for everyone to get this wonderful pet. If you didn’t get a chance to get the Watchful Ailu the first time around, the second survey is your chance to get it on your main. If you already received this pet, the second survey is a chance to get it on an additional character!

Make sure you log onto the appropriate character before you open and accept the survey, Daevas.

Ayase leaves NCSoft

Sebastian Steifert, known better to European Aion players as Ayase, has stepped down from his position as Community Manager. His last day of work as Community Manager was last Friday. There is an appreciation thread on AionSource forums where you can say your farewells. You can also read his farewell post on the EU forums. Faelan is supposed to take over his responsibilities on the Aion team.

We had a chance to meet Sebastian in person during this year’s Gamescom and he was a pleasure to talk to and a very nice person. NCSoft is at a loss with him leaving and whatever game is getting him is very lucky. Aion Life wishes you the best of luck in your future business endeavors.

New Aion Lab Research: Do Cursed Items Affect the Loot

You have probably came across several discussions about Cursed Gargoyle Fragments and their affect on the Fire Temple loot. Aion Lab decided to test this issue by killing Kromede 1000 times with and without the cursed item in the inventory. The results are:

Do Cursed Gargoyle Fragments in your inventory affect the loot in the Fire Temple?

Would like to point out that according to test results, we can safely conclude that Cursed Gargoyle Fragments do NOT influence the loot drops from the Fire Temple. We can even see that in some cases, having Cursed Gargoyle Fragments in inventory actually resulted in MORE loot.

Do Cursed Lich Bones in your inventory affect the loot in Adma Stronghold?

While looking to see if cursed items affect loot, we also researched the Cursed Lich Bones and their effect on loot from Adma Stronghold. Here are the results after we killed Lannok 1000 times with and without Cursed Lich Bones in our inventory!

Test results almost identical to what we saw with Cursed Gargoyle Fragements in Fire Temple! Cursed Lich Bones in your party’s inventory do NOT affect the loot from Adma Stronghold!

Do loot rates change based on character level?

Xenoheart of Zikel asks: “I have always been interested in seeing if loot rates changed based on your level? I know that if you are greater than plus or minus 10 level difference, the loot straight up don’t[sic] happen. However the current most accepted hypothesis is that loot tables increase as you approach the level of the mob. For example if you are lvl 45 and the mob is level 45 you have the highest possible loot table. If you are lvl 44 or 46 it is slightly lower, 43, and 47 even lower, and so forth till the 10 level difference. Another theory is that this decrease only happens for being levels above the mob, not below.”

This was a topic that we looked into as we were running our tests on poor Kromede! Killed her at various levels, and as you can see in the chart below, we see a SEVERE DECREASE in drop rates when characters 8 levels above Kromede (remember: Kromede is lvl 37) defeat her. The frequency of item drops decreases even further when 9 levels higher than the mob, and ceases entirely when the level difference is 10 or greater!

New Aion Rifting Changes

On Friday, December 10 Aion team will begin a month-long trial of changes to the current rifting settings. During this one-month trial:

  1. The protection for defenders in Morheim and Eltnen will remain, but the strength of the protection will be significantly reduced. The intent of this change is to provide protection to lower-level players, but also allow for challenging rifting battles in Morheim and Eltnen.
  2. The protection for defenders in Heiron and Beluslan will be removed entirely. This change allows higher-level players to engage in full-scale rifting and to complete spy quests, such as the Betoni’s quest line.
