Star Trek Online in-game footage from Gamescom 09

There’s loads of news incoming from Gamescom. Lets start of with some in game footage from the Star Trek MMORPG. It is a video shown at the STO conference shot by a handheld camera so not all details are sharp, but we can still see some space and on planet combat. Space combat looks impressive and is reminiscent of what we’ve seen in the movies and TV shows. Planet combat on the other hand feels a bit clunky. You better judge for yourself from the video below:

Jumpgate Evolution has 250k beta sign-ups

250.000 people (along with yours truly) signed up for the beta testing of the upcoming space MMO Jumpgate Evolution. The Beta is scheduled to begin later this year. The game itself, from the looks of in game material released so far, is more action oriented in comparison to Eve Online – its direct and only real contender in the space/sci-fi MMO market (at this moment). I’d be inclined to call it the Space Invaders, while Eve would be Tetris. Now that would be one great thing to look forward to – a Tetris MMO – I have no idea how it would be possible, but I never thought putting blocks into place would be that much fun either. I’ll leave it to the Russians to figure it out.

Anyways …

Celebrating the occasion, Codemasters released a batch of new screenshots, of which we present a few below

APB – new in game footage

All points Bulletin is not your regular MMO game. It provides you with a persistant world and cities sprawling with thousands of NPCs, and yes that all sounds like something we heard so many times before. The difference is it unleashes only 100 players onto each instance of these cities. 100 mean looking, weapon wielding, pimped out car driving, blood thirsty players. Starting to sound good now? It’s your good old Cops vs Robbers game, only they are called Enforcers and Criminals in the game’s world. It all sounds and looks very GTA-ish and that is no bad thing – GTA sold in, like, gazillions? I am interested in seeing how this turns out. The game is based on Unreal 3 engine and gives you and “only” 99 other people a playground to rob and fight and whatnot. This sandbox meets Massive Multiplayer might be a breath of fresh wind.
